How to Pray When You Don’t Know What to Say

Have you ever sat down to pray and realized you didn’t even know where to begin?

Maybe you’re overwhelmed. Maybe you’re hurting. Maybe you’re just tired. Sometimes the hardest part of prayer is finding the words.

The good news is this: God is not waiting for perfect prayers. He is looking for honest hearts.

Romans 8:26 reminds us, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness… the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Even when you don’t have the words, God understands. He hears what your heart is trying to say.

When you don’t know how to pray, start simple:

  • “God, I need You.”
  • “Lord, help me.”
  • “Father, give me peace.”

Prayer doesn’t have to be polished. It just has to be real.

You can also pray Scripture. Open a Psalm and let those words become your own. Sometimes borrowing God’s Word gives language to what we’re feeling.

If all you can offer is silence, that’s okay too. Sit with Him. Breathe. Let His presence be enough.

God isn’t impressed by long speeches. He’s moved by trust.

When you don’t know what to say, just come anyway. He’s listening.

And if you ever need someone to pray with you, we’re here.
